Staff and Local Authority Members recently had a special preview of the impressive new development known as Cwrt Twyncarn.

Built on the former Twyncarn Community Hall site in Cwmcarn, it is the result of a successful partnership between Caerphilly County Borough Council, Seren Group and the Welsh Assembly Government.

Exclusively for the over 55s, the development is a mix of contemporary 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, that were available both to rent or to buy.

The visitors were particularly impressed with the enhanced specification used throughout the development, which was specifically designed to maximise an independent style of living, whilst having the flexibility and accessibility to accommodate any changes in its residents’ circumstances and lifestyles.

It is hoped that this type of accommodation will become a flagship for future older persons accommodation across the borough.

Cwrt Twyncarn has proved extremely popular, with all apartments now reserved.

Expectant mothers in Fairview, near Blackwood, will benefit from improved ante-natal services thanks to a partnership between Charter housing and health services in Caerphilly.

In partnership with the Aneurin Bevan Health Board’s Women and Child Health Division, Charter are offering a midwife- led ante-natal service at its community house on the Fairview estate. Owned by Charter, the house is used by all members of the community.

The aim is to provide accessible and comfortable ante-natal services to mums to be in familiar surroundings, where they can benefit from the support of other mothers and health professionals in the area. The service will provide health checks and advice from qualified community midwives in the run up to the birth, as well as the opportunity to attend support sessions once baby is born.

Ante-natal services will be brought into the community offering on-going support to mothers and families. Future plans include parent and family sessions and a parent and toddler group.

For further information contact Kate Aspinwall on 01633 678514
