Tuned In Trainees Celebrate Success
The Tuned In radio project, an ESF funded Engagement Gateway Scheme, has proved to be a major success since October 2011. It has helped to train economically inactive people Newport and Monmouthshire. The sessions were organised by Charter in partnership with Newport City Radio.
More than 60 people have taken part in the project to teach people of all ages basic radio skills. Participants were given the opportunity to obtain an NOCN in group work and communication skills, with 47 successfully gaining the qualification.
On the 26 June, to celebrate the efforts of all the participants, training suppliers, volunteers and supporters of this scheme, Newport City Radio devoted a whole day of live radio shows to help promote the initiative. Trainees were presented with certificates in a celebration event to mark their success.
The live broadcasts were written and presented by the trainees. These included a mix of interviews, music, entertainment and discussions about how the project has helped so many people in Newport gain new skills, increase confidence and provide access to new training and volunteering opportunities.
