* Placements for refugee women

Charter has been working with an organisation called Tai Pawb to look at initiatives which would encourage people from BME backgrounds to consider a career in Housing, because we feel that it is important that our workforce reflects the communities that we work in. It will also mean that we are able to give much wider consideration to the issues facing 'minority' groups as part of our everyday decision making and service delivery.

* ‘SNAP’ survey

Charter has recently purchased a software package called 'SNAP' which will enable us to carry out regular customer surveys to see what customers think of the way we do things. These surveys will feature on our website, and will also be sent out in paper form.

* Housing Awards 2006

Once again Charter was short listed for the prestigious UK Housing Awards, unfortunately we were runners-up on this occasion, but to have been short listed was an achievement in itself, and reflects the hard work that has gone into developing this important service for our customers, as it is a high priority for them. These awards, which are organised by the Chartered Institute of Housing and sponsored by a number of big names in the housing world, recognise innovation and achievement in the field of Social Housing.

* HACT Accommodate Project

Charter has been named as the lead partner in this new multi-agency project which is aimed to offer support to refugees who are looking to access accommodation in the private housing sector, we have successfully gained funding to employ a development worker who will act as an advocate for refugees, many of whom face particular barriers while seeking private rented homes and who do not get priority for social housing.

* The Respect Standard - Housing Management

Charter were recently invited to send two staff members to a reception in the HQ of the Department for Communities and Local Government in Westminster to celebrate 100 days of the Respect Standard for Housing Management. The reception provided Charter staff with an opportunity to meet other housing providers signed up to the Respect Standard and to talk to senior figures about our approach.
