MyPad Celebrates First Year with Major Award

Charter’s youth housing project MyPad is celebrating the anniversary of its first course with a national award. MyPad scooped Innovation of the Year at the 2013 Welsh Housing Awards, which was hosted by the Chartered Institute of Housing Cymru at The Vale Resort near Cardiff last Friday.

MyPad is a pre-tenancy training programme for young people in Newport which works to prevent youth homelessness by delivering practical workshops from housing professionals. The project is supported by Newport City Council and Supporting People, plus the city’s biggest social landlords.

The MyPad coordinator Kelly Major and project assistant Aimee Hunt collected the award alongside partnership colleagues from Newport City Homes, Linc-Cymru, Melin and Newport City Council.

This award is MyPad’s second in 2013; in May the project won Tenant Participation Advice Service Cymru award for its work with young volunteers.
