my working week adventure

Hey I’m Gabby, I’ve been doing something a bit different this month. I had the opportunity to take part in ‘Working Week’ and this is how it went…

Day one began with a health and safety in the work place assessment, which was a pretty mellow start to the week. I knew I would stand out with my bright blue hair and nervous smile on my face and was unsure what to expect.

The next day I was anxious and tense, I waited to be taken to the department that I would be spending time with for ‘Working Week’. I was taken by surprise as I was introduced to my new team, we’d be looking at social media and websites, writing articles and lots of other creative stuff. My thoughts went a bit like this…

1. Oh gosh, what am I doing?

2. Can I  even do this?

3. I’m not going to enjoy this.

And last but not least…

4. I’m so dumb, I wont understand any of this.

I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself enjoying the challenge, “does this sound right in this sentence? how about the design, what do you think of it?” I found myself and my new team member throwing ideas out to each other. I would never have thought of going for a job like this. I found it challenged my creativity and encouraged me to think differently – this is something I could do and I didn’t even know it.

The next thing I know, I’m being offered to do this blog. I’ll be honest, I was feeling a bit nervous but I was up for the challenge. I ended my day excited for the next. I wonder what tomorrow will bring!

My third day I was hesitant to show my blog draft, I thought to myself “they will hate it”. When I sat at the computer I stared at the screen… do I show them my work or should I start over?  I pondered over what to do for an hour until I just thought “I’m going to show them; if they don’t like it I’ll work on something new, I’m a flexible person…right?”

No way! They loved it. I beamed with confidence, oh my gosh I did it and they liked it. I quickly rushed down to show Bethan and she liked it too. It’s been a long time since I felt proud of myself but before I could get my head around that, off I went to the ‘try a trade’ day of  ‘Working Week’ ready to take on my next challenge.

I soon realised that I am not good at pipe work!! When I got to do the plastering I completely got the hang of it. It might even be another job path…I could be a blogging plasterer right?!!

Also, I will admit I gave electrical wiring a miss, I just didn’t trust myself.

‘Working Week’ has come and gone and although I’m feeling sad about leaving I’ve found myself inspired by my time here! I’ve found out what I’m good at and what I’m not good at, I might even give this blogging thing ago.
