Women’s Aid.

Newport Women’s Aid provide support to anyone who is experiencing domestic abuse.  They also assist women and children with finding safe accommodation such as Refuge.  They provide refuge for women and their children who have to leave their homes because of physical, mental, sexual or financial abuse.  They encourage and empower people who have experienced domestic abuse to determine their own future and provide for the emotional needs of children who have been affected by domestic abuse.  They also aim to educate young people and children in schools and colleges about the issues to try and prevent the cycle of abuse.

They run a drop in service at our main office in Stow Hill Monday to Friday 9.00am – 4.30pm when anyone can call in for advice and support, whether they are in an abusive relationship, concerned for a friend or family member or have previously been in an abusive relationship.  They also provide a 24 hour 7 day a week on-call service so that people can speak to a specialist domestic abuse worker at any time.

Newport Women’s Aid run a number of communities based programmes for women and children, helping them to gain a better understanding of their experiences and develop the skills to make independent decisions in the future.  These include the Freedom Programme, Recovery Tool and ‘Hand’s Off’.  For more details of these programmes please contact Newport Women’s Aid or see their website.

They also run a coffee morning so that women who have experienced domestic abuse can access informal support and gain a range of alternative skills, such as self-defence classes, cake decorating and nail art.

LLamau

Llamau

Llamau, Wales’ leading homelessness charity, provides a wide range of services in relation to domestic abuse, and is the largest single provider of refuge accommodation in Wales.  They were the first organisation in Wales to provide 24 hour supported refuges for women and their children, recognising that their need for support was not confined to ‘office hours’.

Their domestic abuse services in the Gwent area provide tailored outreach support to women, men, children and families affected by abuse, as well as refuge accommodation for women and their children fleeing domestic abuse.  As well as refuge accommodation and family safe houses, they employ specialist children & young people’s workers to support children and young people to overcome their experiences, and safety workers, rural workers and housing related support also help adult victims of abuse to regain control over their lives and understand positive and healthy relationships. Last year in Gwent, they worked with more than 800 victims of abuse.

For advice or information you can contact Llamau on 029 2086 0255 or enquiries@llamau.org.uk who will forward your email to the most appropriate area providing service
