In Your Community : Seniors : Health and Wellbeing Project

ACTIVITIES & EVENTS
Extend Exercise classes have been arranged for all sheltered schemes. A specific exercise programme aimed for the over 50s to improve flexibility and health.

HEALTH CLUBS (Summerhill House)
Some sheltered schemes have a health club that meets once a month and have various health and related speakers; these have included topics such as alternative therapies, social services, nutritionists and such like.

CREATIVE WRITING GROUP
A creative writing group is active and provides literature for in house magazines. They have also worked with local schools as assistants to young children in helping them read and write and discover their cultural and family history.

ART CLASSES (Stratford House)
The classes are taught by a Charter tenant.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT PROJECT
Healthy eating recipe book which senior tenants contributed to by sending in their favourite recipes.

CHARTER SENIORS FORUM
A forum that consists of senior tenants who meet on a regular basis to discuss

WALKING YOUR WAY TO HEALTH
An initiative set up in partnership with Newport Local Health Board. A series of graded and assessed walks for older people in and around Newport throughout the year on a weekly basis to encourage fitness amongst older people.

COMMUNITY SENSORY GARDEN with NASH PILOT PROJECT
A garden built entirely by volunteers and with local donations from various businesses for senior tenants at Trinity Court. The garden has a theme to appeal to the senses - hearing, sight, taste, smell and emotive senses to encourage healthy eating, natural medicines and help alleviate depression and encourage wellbeing.
