Investing in Communities : Young People

young2The Zone magazine has been going for about two years now and aims to provide opportunities for young people to get involved with compiling and producing each edition. To date they have written articles about events, different issues that affect them, true stories, and reviews of books and gigs. Click on the link at the bottom of this page to open a copy of the latest issue of The Zone.

Wall ClimberThe Dream Scheme is an exciting project that recognises the positive influence that young people can make to their communities. In exchange for working in their community young people earn points which they then save up and swap for trips of their choice, such as rock climbing and visits to fun fairs and adventure parks. Other benefits for the young people are having fun, learning new things and meeting new people.

Soundscape
A music and art project that took place during two months in 2004 involving young people from around Abergavenny. The young people made a 20 minute CD of storytelling, singing and drumming, and also painted a 3-piece artwork, due to be displayed in one of the public buildings in Abergavenny town.

young1Football Coaching
We have worked with different communities within inner city Newport estates to set up football training sessions with professional coaches. These sessions are extremely popular and take place on a weekly basis. They have led to us entering teams for Lliswerry Park Drive and Barrackswood in community football competitions. We have also run football taster days especially for girls to develop their skills which have also proved popular.

Other One Day Events
In addition to ongoing or short projects we have also involved our tenants in a variety of one day activities....here are some we have organised over the past few months.
