: Working in Communities
Environmental Initiatives Charter work in partnership with community recycling projects to support them in their objectives. Newport Wastesavers assist in waste minimisation through the operation of a doorstep waste recycling service, furniture recycling project, community repaint scheme, along with providing educational services relating to recycling. In Monmouthshire, Homemakers Community Recycling currently specialise in the reuse and recycling of furniture and domestic appliances. Furniture can be purchased at their showroom in Abergavenny or at their regular sales throughout Monmouthshire.
Various environmental cleanups have been undertaken on estates. In 2002 Barrackswood Tenants Association won the Keep Wales Tidy Award for their clean up of Barracks Field and the adjacent stream. More recently an environmental cleanup has been part of the Dreamscheme project in Lliswerry Park Drive.
