Creating and Growing Together
As many of us found ourselves making our way through swarms of Christmas shoppers bundled up warm and loaded with shopping bags, the Growing Together project came up with a great way to avoid the crowds this December.
Growing Together is a lottery funded project for Young Single Parents run in partnership by Charter and single parent charity Gingerbread. It offers workshops aimed at improving peer support, building their confidence, improving their self esteem, developing life skills and working towards positive progressions.
This Christmas, Growing Together participants from Newport, Torfaen, Caerphilly and Monmouthshire got together for an upcycling workshop to create unique gifts for friends and family. The group used old items, that otherwise may have found themselves in someone’s rubbish bin, and turned them into distinctive Christmas gifts and decorations. Old and unwanted picture frames were transformed into trendy notice boards, while empty jars became beautiful Christmas decorations.
As well as the upcycling sessions participants were also invited to attend a chocolate workshop which proved very popular! Participants learned to make their own unique handmade chocolates as well as chocolate orange and maltesers Christmas puddings. The results looked stunning and tasted even better!
