Cabinet Secretary joins ‘the Brothers’ for White Ribbon Day
Carl Sargeant (Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Children in Welsh Government) joined ‘the Brothers’ in their quest for equality at the BAWSO ‘Light a Candle’ event to commemorate the International Day to Eliminate Violence against Women (White Ribbon Day) held at Llandaff Cathedral on 25th November.
The ‘Brothers’ project is a male focused partnership between Charter and Bron Afon Community Housing aimed at young men aged between 15 and 25, living in the areas that the housing organisations operate. Through issue based workshops and monthly support meetings The Brother Project builds the resilience of young men to enabling them to cope better with life’s challenges.
The event started with a march from BAWSO’s premises in Cardiff, followed by an ecumenical service at the Cathedral, and a multi-cultural lunch at Bawso to raise funds for women with no recourse to public funds.
Representatives from the ‘Brothers’ were there to support putting an end to violence against women. The young men are also promoting the work they are doing in partnership with women’s aid in delivering domestic abuse awareness to young men in schools.
Carl Sargeant (Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Children in Welsh Government) was impressed with the work they are doing and has asked to be updated with the progress of the project.
