Tenants reveal recipe for success at Wales-wide conference
Charter‘s Forward Together Panel have won an award, helped organise a tenant fun day and fast-tracked their IT skills! It’s been a busy year for Forward Together Panel (FTP) – and this month they were able to spill the beans on their success.
At September’s Welsh Tenant Federation conference in Llandridnod Wells, four FTP members presented a workshop on their experiences to social housing staff and tenants from all over Wales.
Supported by Homes and Communities Manager Kay Helyar and Tenant Participation Manager Ailsa Yeoman-Evans, Christine Oakey, Maria Cairns, Miechel Wilkinson and Bernard Allen talked about the achievements and progress of the FTP, which launched in summer 2010.
Panel members had been invited to speak at the conference due to the rapid development the partnership group has enjoyed.
“The tenants were really nervous about talking to a room full of people but once they started they couldn’t stop,” said Ailsa Yeoman-Evans, Tenant Participation Manager. “It was great to hear all of the positive comments from other tenants and housing staff; the Panel really deserves recognition for all of their hard work.”
Both staff and tenants make up the Panel, which meets bi-monthly and reviews how Charter works with its tenants. Full training is given, and members get to meet new people, learn new things and make a difference to how Charter is run. The next meeting is on Wednesday 5th October, 12.30-5pm at the YMCA Conference Centre in Newport.
