First community based ante natal service is launched

Expectant mothers in Fairview, near Blackwood, will benefit from improved ante-natal services thanks to a partnership between Charter housing and health services in Caerphilly.

In partnership with the Aneurin Bevan Health Board’s Women and Child Health Division, Charter are offering a midwife- led ante-natal service at its community house on the Fairview estate. Owned by Charter, the house is used by all members of the community.

The aim is to provide accessible and comfortable ante-natal services to mums to be in familiar surroundings, where they can benefit from the support of other mothers and health professionals in the area. The service will provide health checks and advice from qualified community midwives in the run up to the birth, as well as the opportunity to attend support sessions once baby is born.

Ante-natal services will be brought into the community offering on-going support to mothers and families. Future plans include parent and family sessions and a parent and toddler group.
